visa on arrival

Visa On Arrival Available for 23 Nationalities flying direct to Bali

Immigration Department expanded list of countries whose nationals can get a Visa on Arrival at the airport.

Effective 22nd of March the nationalities listed below can obtain a Visa on Arrival IN BALI, which is valid for 30 days and can be extended ONCE for 30 days. After 60 days the traveller needs to leave the country. If you need to stay longer, or your nationality is not listed, you would need to apply for a B211A Tourist Visit Visa.

After much speculation and rumours, Indonesian authorities finally released an official circular advising that Visa On Arrival (VOA) is applicable once again for “some” foreign nationals entering Indonesia. Please note that this visa only applies to a limited number of nationalities and is only applicable to flights entering Bali International Airport directly.

On the 22nd of March the Visa on Arrival has been made possible for travellers from following countries, but only if you arrive in Bali. the nationalities listed below can obtain a Visa on Arrival in Bali:

Argentina New Zealand
Australia Norway
Belgium Philippines
Brazil Poland
Brunei Qatar
Cambodia Saudi Arabia
Canada Seychelles
China Singapore
Denmark South Africa
Finland South Korea
France Spain
Germany Sweden
Hungary Switzerland
India Taiwan
Italy Thailand
Japan Tunesia
Laos Turkey
Malaysia UAE
Mexico UK
Myanmar USA
Netherlands Vietnam

The Visa on Arrival is valid for 30 days and can be extended once while in Bali. After 60 days you must leave the country, You cannot apply for another onshore visa.

What about the other travellers

If your nationality is not listed above you still need to apply for a Visit Visa B211A. This Visa is valid for 60 days and can be extended up to 4 times (each extension for 30 days).

So if you wish to stay longer than 60 days you need a B211A Visa, even if you could get a Visa on Arrival.

More Good News: Indonesia reduces the quarantine related regulations significantly

Effective 8th of March, Indonesia implements new quarantine regulations and makes travelling to Bali much easier. Of course the hope is, that more travellers will now decide to travel to Bali and the harshly hit tourism industry can gradually recover.

There are still regulations to follow and the Visa on Arrival is only valid for 23 nationalities. But compared to everything that Bali experienced during the last 2 years of the pandemic, this is the first time, that one can remotely say: Bali is open again.

The new quarantine regulations that apply for all nationalities in detail:
  1. you need a confirmed Hotel Booking for 3 nights / 4 days in a government certified hotel (CHSE). Some hotels will now offer a carefree “warm-up” package that takes care of everything
  2. first PCR test at the airport, we advise to book hotel packages where this this PCR test is already included
  3. guests need to wait in their hotel room until they get the result. We are not aware how long this would take, but depending on your time of arrival it can happen same day, or next morning.
  4. If the test is negative you can freely enjoy Bali, but you cannot travel onwards to another hotel, particularly not leave Bali and go to Lombok or Java
  5. 2nd PCR test on the 3rd day of your stay. Also here we suggest to book a hotel where this is already handled and arranged for you
  6. If the second test is negative, you can check out the next day and then go to other hotels or other islands
  7. Other regulations are still in place: fully vaccinated, arrive with a negative PCR test, travel insurance covering covid related expenses (some hotels offer packages including an insurance that is accepted).

There are some details that the government has not specified and some travellers might still have some questions. Those details will probably be clarified  in the days to come.

Your Questions Answered

What is the Visa On Arrival (VOA)?

The visa on arrival allows foreigners to enter Indonesia, for 30 days with the possibility of a further extension of an additional 30 days.

What if my country isn’t on the list?

If your country is not on the list, you will still require a visa to enter Indonesia.

Can I enter any other International Airports using the Visa On Arrival other than Bali?

No. For now, this is a trial period, foreigners of the above 23 nationalities may only enter via Bali International Airport.

How long will this new amendment last?

We do not know. There is a G20 summit being held in Bali, which is most likely the reason for this change in immigration practice. Please note, that this is a trial period, more countries may be added or the scheme could scrapped if not successful.

If I am from the 23 countries, should I still get a visa?

If you are planning to spend a long time in Indonesia or you have a purpose other than tourism, you should get an appropriate visa. Additionally, if you are entering another area of Indonesia (not Bali), you will still require a visa.

Direct flights to Bali are presently few and far between, with only a limited amount of flights entering daily. The most reliable airline being Singapore Airlines, although more flights are beginning to enter each week.
